Step on a nail

Ouch.

Feet are important for vagabonding. Lieutenant Dan’s famous advice from Forrest Gump of “take care of your feet” rang through my head about the time I stepped on the rusty nail in Pai.

Rather than step on the sharp point as I would have preferred, the rounded head of a grumpy, little nail was sticking up through a bamboo platform near the river. I was lucky enough to find it in the dark.

Other than a hobble, and some concerns that it would turn rancid as injuries in Southeast Asia often do, I healed up just fine in less than a week. Unlike the festering coral cuts I enjoyed in Indonesia last year.

I love tetanus shots. 🙂
