Oktoberfest, in September?

If I had a dime for every time a friend at home had said that.

I did not care if it was in bloody July. I was not going to be in Germany and miss one of the largest parties in the world. Inter-city buses are pretty much non-existent and the trains are terribly expensive, so I arranged a rideshare on one of the popular websites in Konstanz. Ridesharing is pretty much organized hitch hiking, and I managed to find a nice woman driving to Vienna, Austria on a business trip.

München bound

“We keep running as to not miss what is not really there”.

That was the quote that my new friend and roommate of the last week, Christian, wrote in my travel journal. I think that he uses it in a Buddhist context, but it hit me directly between the eyes when I applied it to my vagabonding. What am I looking for? IS it really there? I dont know, but I made a vow to myself to keep traveling until 1) I run out of money 2) I get killed 3) I run out of places to go. So far none of the criteria has been met, there were a few close calls, but I have to keep going.

Germany

I managed to fight my way on board the budget airline HLX and sucker-punched a pregnant woman to get a window seat.

I didnt want to miss the opportunity to see the Scandanavian landscape during the day as I flew to Germany. Im glad that I did, it was wet and spectacular. Green islands floating in the sea, a deep blue sky the color of glacier water, and a thick bundle of cotton clouds sat on top the whole picture like whipped cream on a dessert for my eyes.

Sweden was a great experience, but I was happy to be heading south before the weather realized that it was missing an opportunity to kick me in the butt again. I am still jacketless, a couple of shopping attempts in Sweden yielded nothing but expensive options and so I decided to wait.
