Chopping block?

I am sitting here listening to Daraboka, Arabic music from Egypt that I picked up in Dahab. My right ring finger is getting a little excited, twitching up and down and doing a little dance. This is because it hears music from home….?

Once again, my finger that I cut diving the Red Sea shipwreck, the Thislegorm, almost 2 MONTHS AGO, is re-infected and on fire. I went to the doctor yesterday and he said that there are nasty marine bacterias that live in the tissue and never die. Like any good American doctor, he gave me a lifetime supply of antibiotics and told me to call him later. When it starts oozing, he wants a sample for a culture. Just think, a little piece of Egypt will be alive inside of me forever. (too bad its eating my finger)

Wow – I knew that it was a bad dive, but this is my third round of antibiotics and I have fought this thing for 2 months. Its under my fingernail and my finger is numb below the last knuckle anyway, I am seriously contemplating just offing the damn thing to be done with it, I only type with 2 fingers anyway! :)

Where did you stay in Dahab? I had planned on getting back there in December, but didn’t quite make it. My kids and I spent 3 weeks there in June. We watched the entire World Cup sitting in front of a TV in the “living room” which is what we called the Penguin restaurant.

I did manage to move enough to dive the Thistelgorm, but won’t lose a finger because of it. Bummer! Didn’t anyone ever tell youto keep your fingers to yourself? :) Good luck with that.

  • Hi Nora, I stayed in “Alaska camp” just over the bridge and really enjoyed it.

The Thistlegorm was a disaster for me! Since youre a diver, you’ll be able to appreciate the story, its here:
