50K and other updates

50,900 poor souls subjected to this blog. (The WordPress upgrade took away public stats, so I’ll just have to brag periodically with updates)

I guess it beats hiding in your office and waiting for the snake or the psychedelic mushroom to break up the entrancing monotony of BadgerBadgerBadger?

On a darker note, my right kidney is still swollen and feels like someone has a knife inside of it. WTF? I pride myself for eating healthy and being in decent enough shape, Is this just one of the mysterious things that happens when you get to be over 30? It hurts so bad right now that I’m hoping to just fall asleep downtown and wake up in a bathtub full of ice to be rid of the damn thing!

RoadJunky hooked me up with their Travel Handbook, more residual winnings from last year’s writing contest. It was a pleasant surprise and unlike some of the independently published books I’ve been seeing on websites lately, this thing looks very professionally edited and printed. It feels like a real book rather than something done in a basement or the budget offering on lulu.com. The very first section is simply titled “How to travel with no money”. Wow – perfect for my current scenario.

Speaking of traveling with no money….now that my hopes of getting the photography gig down in Mexico are officially dashed in the sand beneath the drunk Spring Breakers’ feet, I am going to be scraping by to make my next trip happen.

Even against all my better financial judgment, I am going to proceed back to Asia on a skeleton budget and write about it, I think it will be good practice for me to be a better vagabond rather than a tourist/backpacker and it will open my eyes to a whole new world of hobo travel. (Of course, how many hobos do you know that carry SLR cameras?)

Admittedly, it IS going to be hard not being able to scuba dive in Indonesia!

Trip planning is in progress. More details later.

    that badger thing is addictive

also on a darker note… maybe you won’t be able to go to Asia if you die of kidney failure… even if you go to the doctor and he just bills you and gives you antibiotics, then at least you’ll get better. And I’ll keep being entertained by this blog.
Kidney stones: Typically, a person feels a sharp, cramping pain in the back and side in the area of the kidney or in the lower abdomen.
Nephritis: Nephritis is inflammation of the kidney. The two most common causes of nephritis are infection or an auto-immune process.
Pyelonephritis: The most common type of kidney inflammation. Symptoms usually begin in one kidney, though both can be affected with time.

  • The way I see it, you have two options:

    1. Go to the doctor and get some antibiotics

    2. Ask me to send you the last of my magic pill packets from China. I’m sure one of those 14 pills will make your kidney feel better.
