I sat in seat 18F, watching in awe as she made her way down the aisle.

Black leather boots with 6 inch soles, full length tailored black trench coat, short black hair, and reflective sunglasses - on a plane?

Down to the facial expression, it was Trinity from the Matrix movie. She looked about as friendly as a rattlesnake so I didn’t dare say anything, for fear of getting a spiked boot across my face at 07:00 in the morning. Moments later, an aging black man, shaved head, wearing black and stylish, round sunglasses got on behind her. Morpheus?

You’ve got to be kidding!

The two acted like they weren’t together, but no doubt they were. And somewhere an operator was watching the entire scene unfold. I decided to behave and stuck my nose in my National Geographic for the duration of the flight.

A vagabond Halloween

A squash-o-lantern?

A squash-o-lantern?

Sim: “What is a good Halloween tradition in America?”

Greg: “Hmmm…well carving faces into pumpkins is a very old tradition”

(I failed to mention that so is smashing them)

Sim: “Really? Will you carve some pumpkins for the hostel?”

Greg: “Uhhh…don’t know…its messy and I’m a little tired.”

Sim: “If you carve one, I will make a Halloween party and drinks are on the house.”

[sounds of Greg choking as he jumps up too quickly]

Greg: “Be right back!”

Off to California

Ouch!

Ouch!

After working a big chunk of the summer as a ring photographer at the Kentucky Horse Park, and taking literally thousands of photos of horses jumping over things - I know a horse’s anatomy better than I ever wanted to. From the green froth that forms in the corners of their mouths’ under exertion to the exact angle at which a stallion lifts its tail to take care of business, it has all come through my viewfinder at one point or another.

Some was good, some I still have nightmares about.
