Travel forums

I finally got the new forums configured on my site.

Since Boots-n-all already has some rockin’ forums, which I have used to help plan nearly all of my trips, the main focus of my forums will be helping people plan their exit from the Rat Race, giving encouragement for those still stuck inside cubicles, the vagabonding mindset, etc.

I know its brand new, but there is nothing uglier than a bunch of forum boards sitting with 0 posts. Help!

Vagabonds or hobos?

There is a fine line between a “bum with no job” and vagabonding.

So fine, that I have determined my official title should be “Vagabum”. A vagabond is someone that chooses to be homeless and nomadic, rejecting the “normal” paths in society, rather than being the rejectee.

I was looking around Vagabondish and stumbled through to an awesome photo essay of people living the old-fashioned, train-hopping, hobo lifestyle. Whether you agree or not, it was very interesting. Check it out, then determine if you actually long for the simplicity of that lifestyle (plus or minus an additional shower or two) or pity them.

After seeing this, I hesitate to call myself a “vagabond” after slinging on my nice Gregory pack!

Watch out for the “dinner” at the end. :)

Two years

The new airport in Bangkok

Two year ago today, the wheels of my plane touched down in Bangkok, Thailand. The 23 hours worth of flying and stressing had left me tired, foggy, and wondering what the hell I was doing here. It was my first serious trip outside of the US, and I honestly had no idea what to expect. I didn’t even have a proper guidebook. I did not know how long that I would be gone, I was here on a one way ticket.
