Memorial Day

Soldier's grave
Nice picture but not mine - I stole it!

Memorial Day is one of my favorite holidays. It always means cookouts, camping, climbing, and outdoor fun with friends.

Sometimes it seems like just another bank holiday - but try to remember that while we are out screwing around on the lake, there are men and women around the world that would do anything to be doing the same thing. Instead of dodging logs in the water, they are dodging IEDs and AK47s.

At 15:00 (3:00pm EST) on Monday there is a 1 minute moment of silence across the US for fallen and still fighting soldiers. One minute of your time is pretty trivial to sacrifice compared to what these men and women have given. Regardless of your political views, they are human beings that are scared and miss home. If you can remember, close your eyes for these guys and say a little thanks.

If you have time, visit this website that lists casualties by the day. It is sobering.
